In the beginning I tried to see many of Surabaya's museums, including one of the most important, the 10th of November Museum. In 1945, Indonesians continued fighting the Dutch for independence (after the Japanese and British, briefly) once WWII ended. The battle fought in Surabaya on this day is one of the most significant to Indonesians, especially those in East Java and in Surabaya. The museum and a monument named Heroes Monument were built to commemorate the events and to honor Indonesians and allies fighting for independence. November 10th is still celebrated annually as Heroes Day and many festivities occur on and around this day in downtown Surabaya.
I also joined in on one of the jazzercise events occurring every Sunday morning from 6-9am in one of Surabaya's few parks.
